DESCRIPTION:Welcome to The ForEm – Part fête. Part exhibition. Part experiment.\nSaturday 19th September\n10-6pm\, free entry\nThe ForEm asks deceptively simple questions: \nWhat makes Frome\, Frome? And who gets to decide what comes next? \nThe ForEm invites people to explore the stories they tell about the town: its independence\, creativity and community spirit\, and also its challenges\, contradictions and changing identities. Expect performances\, films\, artworks\, games\, community stories and a warm invitation to question ways of thinking\, feeling\, dreaming\, sensing – and making sense – of the town we share. \nThe ForEm is the commissioned work of Frome-based artist Kate Keara Pelen\, developed through her collaboration with the University of Glasgow’s Civic Imaginary Partnerships research project. It turns a year of research into a space for the town to play with\, challenge and add to what we have found. \nFree performances:\nLocal Legends: Tom Spencer will guide an unconventional gallery tour through the artefacts\, stories\, myths and characters of the town. \nIn Pursuit of Frome: Martin Scott – bringing together Town Crier\, Cheese Lord and long-time observer of Frome life – will invite audiences to spin the wheel of Frome Roulette\, triggering different stories about the town’s civic tribes\, traditions and archetypes. \nPlus: \nThe Community Loom designed by Claire Orpin and Tamara Jones. \nFilms made by Frome residents through the community film project led by Dr John Sealey of Fabian’s Film. \nDrop in\, disagree\, contribute\, play. \nWelcome to The ForEm!

DESCRIPTION:CONFESSIONAL SERIES II\nFour embodied poetry writing workshops Sept – Dec 2026\,\nSilk Mill West\,\nSaturdays 2-7pm\nCurated & facilitated by Rebecca Dorothy Brewin \nOur first series (April – July ’26) explored the ‘Confessional Poetry’ of the 1950’s & 60’s: a time of societal change and disillusionment when poets and artists felt a deep urge to move beyond abstraction and create from their direct experience. A shift in perception\, influencing how we see our self\, humanity and relationships today. \nIn this second series\, on the thresholds of even greater collective change\, in the face of such unknowns\, how do we find new pathways for what we seek to express? What are our modern ‘confessions’? \nAs a group of maximum 8 people\, we will continue to explore the body through movement practices and drawing; language through study of a range of writers and artists; questions on God and the planet through the lens of nature and the mystic traditions. \nAre you a writer with an interest in developing your craft as part of a unique and nurturing group?
