The Red Dress

A Workshop with

The Red Dress

& Kirstie Macleod

We are delighted and honoured that The Red Dress is visiting the Silk Mill!

Workshop Details:
• Time: 10am – 3pm
• Date: Saturday, 21st March 2026

Kirstie says:
Beginning with a presentation that unveils the journey of The Red Dress, a global tapestry woven with stories, stitches, and voices from 51 countries. I will guide you around the garment, sharing the stories of the embroiderers and the cultural heritage and techniques behind the motifs.

Once fully inspired, you’ll create your own “World Embroidery” sampler, featuring stitches from around the globe, including Otomi from Mexico, Bedouin palm motifs, and beautiful border stitches from Lambani women originally from Afghanistan, now settled in southern India.

What You’ll Experience:
• A guided journey around The Red Dress—a global tapestry embroidered by 380 artists from 51 countries
• Stories of resilience, heritage, and healing through embroidery
• Create your own “World Embroidery” sampler with stitches from Mexico, Afghanistan, and beyond
