STUDIO QUESTIONS

Do you have any studios available for rent?

Not very often, we have a waiting list so if you would like to go on it please submit a request at the bottom of this page. It helps if you can give permission to be added to our mailing list at the same time as that is where the list sits.

How long are your tenancy agreements?

Two years with a 6 month break period

Do studios have 24/7access?

Yes

Do studios have heating and is it included in the rent?

Yes and yes

Do the studios have internet access?

We have a basic ethernet port in each studio which has relatively good speeds but if artists know that they will be heavy users of the system it is best for all if they set up their own system in consultation with our IT consultant.

Is there a shared space for the artists to make coffee etc?

Yes there is a kitchen on the ground floor of the studios side of the project which has a fridge, kettle and microwave

PARKING QUESTIONS

What are the parking arrangements at the Silk Mill?

At present we have the use of the car park area below the Silk Mill.

We maintain the outer part largely for studio activities and the inner part for gallery events.

Do you have a list of people who have worked with you before at the Silk Mill for events?

Yes, this is the list for general events

And this is for wedding specific events (many people are on both)

How big is the gallery?

The gallery is 7 x 17 metres long

Can I hire the gallery for my event?

We always like to make things happen so please email Kate on info@silkmillstudios.co.uk with the details of what you have in mind and we will endeavour to help.  Most things seem to happen at weekends and we do get booked up a long way in advance for weekends however Mondays, Tuesdays and  Wednesdays are often available and we will offer a reduced price for hire on those days.

What are the restrictions on activities there?

As an arts organisation we tend not to go for sports/fitness type activities in the gallery.  See below for answers to questions that relate to our licenses which control the times at which things need to finish.

Are the two canopies in the courtyard up all year round?

No they go up in mid – spring and come down in late – autumn

Is the gallery heated?

We have a good infrared heating system that is adequate for all but the very coldest days of the year.

Is there wifi in the gallery 

Yes, the password is s1lkm1ll1nternet

There are four systems: Gallery, Courtyard, Kitchen and Reception and the password is the same for all

LICENSE QUESTIONS

What kind of licenses do you have?

We have:

  • A premises and entertainment license that allows the sale of alcohol, live music until 11pm and quiet recorded music between 11-midnight.
  • A wedding license that allows you to have a legal civil ceremony inside or outside the Silk Mill
  • A PRS license that allows us to play live and recorded music

How many people can we have at our event at the Silk Mill?

If you have the full wedding in the gallery our wedding license allows 100.

If outside in the courtyard you can have up to 150 guests

In the evening you can invite up to a total of 150 guests

Do we need to contact the registrar to arrange for them to attend our wedding?

Yes, the link to the Somerset Wedding Registration Service contact form is here. You pay them directly for that.

GALLERY KITCHEN QUESTIONS

How many and what type of glasses do you offer?

We guarantee that there will be 100 each of:

  • Glass Flutes
  • Paris Goblets (standard wine glasses)
  • Pint Glasses
  • Half Pint/Highball glasses

We also have similar numbers of good quality reusable plastic ‘glasses’ in the similar types

What crockery do you have?

Our crockery is all either white or Myott Royalty (see photo). We have:

  • 50 x 12″ Myott Royalty platesMyott Royalty cups
  • 50 x 9″ Myott Royalty plates
  • 50 x 9″ white plates
  • 100 side plates, some plain and some Myott Royalty
  • 100 bowls some plain and some Myott Royalty

What cutlery do you have?

We have lots of King Pattern cutlery and some plainer to make up 100 each of:

  • knives
  • forks
  • desert spoons
  • and some tea spoons and serving spoons

Do you have a dish washer?

No but we have a very speedy glass washer. It is best not to use for washing dishes unless you have finished the glasses as it is one that reuses the same water until it becomes dirty

Do you have pots and pans?

No, they went missing immediately we bought them!

Do you have fridges/freezers?

Yes we have three fridges of various sizes and a freezer.

Do you have a cooker?

Yes we have a good quality but not huge induction hob cooker with two ovens

Do you have dish cloths, hand towels etc?

No we don’t offer things that need washing regularly like towels, sponges, dish cloths or washing up liquid although there is often some left there. We provide hand soap and toilet roll with paper hand towels in the toilets
